On the night of Friday, October 2nd the Ruins Terrace skate team rolled into Stewart B.C. We were greeted by Johan Slam, our long time friend and team rider. Johan had just built a mini pipe in his warehouse about four feet high, and about 25 feet wide. The plan was to skate, party, and check out some glaciers for the weekend. Once we got settled in we skated with Johan into the wee hours of the morning. Saturday morning after a couple shots of espresso and breakfast we shook off the hangovers and headed towards Hyder making our way to Salmon Glacier, about 35 kms beyond Stewart. The drive was amazing, we didn’t see any bears but it was a blue bird day and it was rad to see the world’s largest glacier accessible by road. We hiked down to the glacier and Johan told us a bunch about the glacier, the names of the mountains around it, and where the border cuts across them. He pointed out lines where the Ruins snow team shreds when they go there, which made us pretty stoked for the upcoming season. Then we may or may not have shot a few guns at some empty beer cans for targets, which was a blast. We then headed back to Johan’s place for some steak, bison burgers, and we even had a little bit of vegetables, for Tara‘s sake. After we let the food settle it was back to skating. We tried to film a bit in the ramp, played a few games of flat ground skate, and we continued to skate and party the night away. Sunday morning we packed up our stuff, thanked Johan for an amazing weekend, and headed back to Terrace. After a lunch in Kitwanga we made a detour to Hazelton, taking advantage of the sunny day and the killer bowl at the Hazelton park. That about wrapped up our weekend…A big thanks to Johan and Tara and Tyler for making this weekend possible.
